Walking for a Cause: The Inspiring Story of Norman Williams Jr.
Norman Williams Jr. began his journey of giving back with small but meaningful steps. It all started with a simple $10 donation to Shriners Hospital every two to three months. At the end of each year, Shriners would send him a record of his contributions — two donations one year, three the next — but despite his generosity, Norman felt like he wasn’t doing enough. He wanted to do more.
Determined to make a bigger impact, Norman started reaching out to people around him, including members of the Inmate Advisory Council. He asked how he could present a proposal to the warden for a larger fundraising initiative. With their guidance, he crafted a plan for what would become the “Walk-a-Thon” — an event aimed at raising funds for Shriners Hospital.
Before officially submitting his proposal, Norman approached the warden directly and explained his vision. To his surprise and delight, the warden encouraged him to move forward and submit the plan. Within a week, it was approved.

With the green light, Norman teamed up with Dr. Rossi to form a planning committee. Together, they gathered a group of nine dedicated individuals to map out every detail of the event. Planning the Walk-a-Thon wasn’t without its challenges — dates had to be rescheduled multiple times due to unforeseen circumstances — but Norman and his team remained committed and adaptable. Finally, after weeks of preparation and a few setbacks, they locked in a date and saw their efforts come to life.
Norman Williams Jr.'s story is a powerful reminder that even small acts of kindness can spark something greater. From modest $10 donations to leading a community-driven fundraiser, his unwavering determination and heart for service continue to inspire those around him.
The Walk-a-Thon wasn’t just a fundraising event — it was a testament to the impact of perseverance, teamwork, and the desire to make a difference. Norman proves that no matter where you start, with passion and dedication, you can create lasting change.
