About Us
2nd Chance 2 Society for LWOPS was founded at Valley State Prison in 2023 by Dr. Sheri Rossi, Psy.D. to provide a safe, therapeutic space for incarcerated individuals sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. The group’s focus is to offer support and serve as a bridge between those sentenced to LWOP and community outreach organizations through collective action. We strive to find tangible solutions that lead to successful outcomes, inclusive restoration, and essential resources for the LWOP community. Our goal is to create collaborative approaches that engage community perspectives, emphasizing the importance of healthy, open, and honest dialogue, informed healing, and psychological support, particularly in relation to the impact of long-term incarceration on personal development.
Why We Exist
At the heart of every human being lies the capacity for change. No one is the sum of their worst moment. For those serving Life Without Parole (LWOP), the sentence often feels like a permanent erasure of their potential, a final verdict that denies the possibility of redemption. Yet, many of these individuals have transformed behind prison walls—educating themselves, mentoring others, and reflecting deeply on their past actions.
"2nd Chance 2 Society for LWOP" exists because we believe in the power of transformation and second chances. Everyone deserves an opportunity to prove that they are more than their mistakes, that they can contribute meaningfully to society. LWOP sentences not only punish the individual but also rob our communities of voices that could promote healing, justice, and change.
By advocating for a second chance, we are advocating for fairness, for a system that sees the whole person, and for a society that recognizes redemption as a fundamental human right.
When we give those who have been incarcerated for life a chance to return, we are saying that no one is beyond hope and that our justice system must be one that includes mercy, rehabilitation, and the possibility of reintegration.
This is about more than just justice—it's about restoring humanity, building bridges of understanding, and believing that people, no matter their past, can still contribute to the future. We advocate for second chances because we believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person.
Our Vision
We envision a future where individuals serving life without parole are not defined by their past but empowered to transform their lives. We see a society that recognizes the inherent human capacity for change and offers meaningful opportunities for rehabilitation, personal growth, and successful reintegration. Our vision is built on the belief that everyone deserves a second chance and that even within the confines of the justice system, hope and redemption are possible.
